- Brief Description:
- Data Dictionary is a set a set of AMLs that run within workstation Arc/Info to help the user prepare CSDGM compliant metadata. Like DOCUMENT, it is an intelligent metadata tool which automatically extracts metadata from a coverage including the projection, bounding rectangle, feature counts, attribute definitions, and attribute minimum and maximum values. It has a tool for building Enumerated_Domain lists for attributes or copying Enumerated_Domain values from a look-up table. A site information (SITEINFO) file with contact information and some distribution information must be customized using TABLES when data dictionary is first set up. That boiler-plate information is placed automatically into metadata output reports. Additionally, an INFO file for common source citations (SOURCES) may be customized. When the user is working on the lineage portion of the metadata for a data set using data dictionary, they may create source citation information from scratch, copy it from another data set, or add it by choosing the appropriate citation from a pick list of those contained in SOURCES. The output is nearly compliant with mp. Because only a limited number of coordinate systems are supported in the output report, this is typically the section which must be patched up to pass mp. A help file in text and WordPerfect form approximates the form of the data entry screens and the on-line help. Hints for use.
- Cost: none
- Notable Plus:
- On-screen digitizing allows creation of a Data_Set_G-Polygon set of Bounding_Coordinates. Good documentation of which metadata elements are and are not supported.
- Notable Minus: -
