ARC/INFO Users interested in FGDC Metadata:



The USGS, in cooperation with the FGDC, has modified the Arc 7.0.4

version of DOCUMENT.AML to produce FILE option output that is close to

100% compliant to the FGDC's Content Standards for Digital Geospatial

Metadata.  In addition, other modifications were performed to ensure

that no metadata is lost in the HTML option output, as well as several

other AML coding enhancements.  Please feel free to retrieve and test

this modified Beta version of 7.0.4 DOCUMENT.  



It can be obtained off the anonymous ftp on 130.11.50.175

under pub/document704.tar.gz, don't forget "type binary" when ftping.

This version only works with the UNIX Workstation version of Arc/INFO

7.0.3 and 7.0.4.  To install, uncompress with "gzip", copy the

document704.tar file to the arcexe70 directory, then "tar xvof" it and

all files will go into place.  This will overwrite the existing version

of DOCUMENT, but that version contains many bugs that have been fixed.



The USGS will be passing this modified version to ESRI in a couple weeks

for them to serve over their anonymous ftp and include in Arc 7.1.  If

you have time to test and provide feedback before Friday, June 14th,

1996, please email Mark Negri (mnegri@usgs.gov) with any comments you

may have.
