Metadata Storage Structure: Database
Brief Description:
GeoConnect provides and controls access to a metadata catalog authored by SMMS (Spatial Metadata Management System) and stored in a Oracle or MS-SQL relational database. The package consists of three major components: MetaWeb - an ASP based Internet search interface that allows an SMMS metadata store to be searched from the Internet or through an Intranet; a Z39.50 protocol server that provides NSDI clearinghouse node search functionality against the metadata store; and an administration tool to control access to the metadata store.

GeoConnect is recommended for operations that enter, modify, and store metadata using the SMMS metadata tool. Operations that use other metadata tools such as tkme, xtme, ArcCatalog, Corpsmet95, or Metamaker should consider the free Isite software rather than GeoConnect.
