Date: Fri, 03 Sep 2004 10:45:16 -0400 From: Doug Nebert To: metadata list Subject: [metadata] British Metadata Tool for ISO Metadata KaR Metadata Toolkit The British Geological Survey, through funding by their Department for International Development, have developed a metadata collection and publishing system associated with their "Kar" project for use by organizations interested in a no/low-cost metadata management system. The project includes tutorial materials and a software system that can be installed using commercial no-fee software (Cold Fusion Express and Access) and for-fee software (Oracle, full Cold Fusion) for the collection of "Core" ISO 19115 metadata. An option is included to export the metadata into a recent draft form of ISO 19139, the XML representation of ISO metadata. The system uses a Web interface for the entry and search of metadata, but it does not yet include a standards-based search API such as Z39.50 or OGC Catalog Services for use within a federated clearinghouse. Metadata may be exported to XML for harvest or indexing in clearinghouse/portal systems.
