METADATA.AML - a tool for automating metadata collection for ArcInfo users. This tool is designed to try to make the GIS managers job of creating metadata easier. The tool runs inside of ESRI'sArcInfo and creates metadata for ArcInfo Coverage and Grids. The tool is written in ArcInfo Macro Language (AML) and because of this will run on any operating system that ArcInfo runs within. The data that is produced by the program comply with the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) standard, and produces file that could be used by a National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Node. This tool was created because current tools available do not provide a means to create metadata in a fast and effective manner. The metadata is designed in such a way that when a coverage is sent to another organization the metadata is embedded in the coverage, so those future viewers of the data set can read the metadata. This program can also be ran in batch mode to allow the GIS manager to create metadata for all GIS layers on server, this is particularly useful for data management.
