- Name/Version:Metagen32
- Reviewer:
- Not reviewed. If it had been reviewed, then very likely the review would be very similar to the review of Corpsmet95. Corpsmet95 was a version of Metagen32 written for the US Army Corps of Engineers. Because the Corps made Corpsmet95 available as a free download, it eliminated the market for Metagen32 and it has disappeared, except for this historical record.

Metagen is a CSDGM metadata creation tool for Windows 95 and Windows NT. It is a standalone application and requires no database support. It requires approximately 1.5 megabytes of disk storage. It was developed under contract for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under the name Corpsmet95 and is now the standard metadata creation tool for the Corps.
Metagen has been tested extensively for compliance with MP (Metadata Parser) both by our company (Coastal Oceanographics, Inc.) and the Corps.
Users may download a free demonstration version from our web site. Go to http://coastalo.com, click on 'Metagen32 is now available...,' then scroll to the .bottom of the page and click on Windows95 or Windows NT.
Metagen displays a metadata project with a Treeview similar to the Windows 95 Explorer. It uses icons to indicate the type of section, (Required, Optional, Applicable) and the status of a section (None, In Progress, Complete). Thus the user can see at a glance the hierarchical structure of the metadata, and the type and status of sections. The FGDC standard is available on line and is linked to the Treeview. The user simply clicks on the section of interest in the Treeview, displays the standard and the standard display is positioned at the appropriate section. The user may save and reopen partially completed work as well as MP compliant metadata files. Metagen requires a hardware key; however, it will run in demo mode if started without the key. You will not be able to save your work or build a Metadata file in demo mode. The Metagen install may be freely distributed for demonstration purposes.
