Description:
Metamorph is an hypertext CSDGM metadata entry form which is currently under limited access through the Internet using a browser like Mosaic. It prompts for free text fields and also presents lists of choices. Used in this manner it illustrates means by which a remote site could update its metadata information on a central server. By the same token it also illustrates the problem with doing metadata documentation on-line. Metamorph exhibits a slow response time, due to what is probably a combination of factors involving the form and overhead in the communication between client and server. Metamorph is in the development stage and possibly when (if) it becomes openly available, it will be possible to run it locally. There is a limited amount of help text to accompany each section heading. The test version of Metamorph is useful to explore an hypertext forms based method of data entry, but at the present time it doesn't produce an accessible output metadata file.
