It incorporates five bug fixes and adds the ability to export HTML from the program. In version 1.0, you could use a browser plus a style sheet like NBII_classic.xsl to display the XML document -- but doing so lost all of the paragraph formatting. The HTML export feature still needs a style sheet to convert the XML to HTML; however, the program's output enhances readability by retaining paragraph structure. If you already have version 1.0 and just want to update the program: go to http://www.ncrs.fs.fed.us/pubs/databases/archive_info/#tools and download the zip file (look at the readme in the program directory after installing). There is also a MD5 checksum value for the .msi install file. If you don't have version 1.0, or if you want an updated copy of the source code, go to the page listed above and use the "new CD" link or go directly to http://www.ncrs.fs.fed.us/pubs/viewpub.asp?key=2737 to order the software package on CD. As before, the CD contains: * the program * program manual * program readme for version 1.2 * program source code (pure Visual Basic.Net written in Visual Studio 2003) * FGDC standard documentation + workbook * Biological Data Profile documentation + workbook * a style sheet for displaying Biological Data Profile XML document in browser (NBII_classic.xsl) * an XML schema for the Biological Data Profile (ncMetadata.xsd) * some example metadata documents to go with the manual and the readme I am planning a version 2.0 with additional features, some interface enhancements, and (depending on how timing meshes) FGDC 3.0/ISO implementation. Once this gets underway, I anticipate having a web site available for community technology previews. Dave David J.
