Other listings, summaries, and reviews of metadata tools

• Doug Nebert (USGS) has compiled a listing and summary (not a review) of metadata tools which includes a number not reviewed in Metadata Tools for Geospatial Data.
• Ohio Geographically Referenced Information Program (OGRIP) released their report on metadata tools in July 1998. Beginning with a listing of 45 tools, the researchers winnowed down the list for further study by selecting current, active, CSDGM compliant or promising tools. Twenty three tools are described using criteria more extensive than the MITRE criteria, and fourteen tools are evaluated for metadata production. The OGRIP metadata tool report is available from FGDC as an on-line web document and as a 161 page Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) document.
• The original (ca. July 1996) MITRE Corporation review of metadata tools has recently resurfaced courtesy of the FGDC.
• Jeffrey Burka commented on his experiences with DOCUMENT, BLMDOC, DATA DICTIONARY, xtme, and NOAA's FGDC Metadata Toolkit to the nsdi_l list in February 1996.

DIF!

Users interested in producing Directory Interchange Format (DIF) metadata can produce it from CSDGM metadata using mp, or use tools designed to help produce it initially. It should be recognized that the CSDGM and the DIF standards have some elements which are unique to each and that DIF output from mp may need additional editing to be compliant with the DIF standard.
