Threaded Metadata Discussions and Q&A

You will probably reach the widest audience for general metadata topics and questions by posting to the Metadata list. Metadata questions specific to ArcCatalog or SMMS are best directed to the ESRI ArcCatalog Metadata Discussion Forum and the SMMStalk forum respectively.

• Metadata listserver mainted by the GeoCommunity. This was formerly the metadata-l list.
• ArcCatalog and metadata is discussed in ESRI Discussion Forums > ArcGIS Desktop > ArcCatalog / Metadata.
• SMMStalk, a forum for users of the Spatial Metadata Management System metadata tool
• The NSDI_L list (URL broken 12/18/2004) was the original forum for topics related to NSDI, but has been pretty quiet since the GeoCommunity metadata listserver got started.
• A newsgroup for Metamaker discussion (the server news.umesc.er.usgs.gov could not be found 12/18/2004).

The level of participation in most of these discussions (very low) may be indicative of the type of breathless excitement that metadata induces in most people.
