Revenues for the Wis. Land Information Program are on a record pace for the first 7 months of the year. The pace is likely due to a large number of mortgage refinancings as interest rates have fallen.
For the seven months from last July through this January, fees forwarded from county Register of Deeds offices were $2.15 million. That compares to $1.4 million for the same period last year.
Counties retain over twice as much of the fees paid when documents are filed as compared to the amount they send on to the Land Information Board in Madison which uses its portion of the fees for administrative expenses and to fund grant programs aimed at land records modernization.
