On May 1, Wisconsin Public Television aired a new program titled “When Wisconsin was New France” covering the 17th century period of Wisconsin’s history.
During that century, French explorers and missionaries interacted with Native Americans. Some of the results of the French activities were maps that served various purposes including laying claim to the lands. The program includes views and discussion of a number of maps from the period.
Watch for announcements of rebroadcasts of this program. The associated web site includes four maps ranging from 1669-1695.
