It’s official, the WI Department of Administration (DOA) has started the hiring process to fill the vacancy left by the former Geographic Information Officer, David Mockert. This ends any speculation about DOA’s commitment to refilling the position.
In the job announcement, desired skills listed include: “Extensive knowledge of geographic data and mapping with a focus on the “vision”; background in GIS technology including a thorough knowledge of GIS software and familiarity with database software; IT skills emphasizing GIS; Proven ability to produce reports and papers on policies, advocating appropriate initiatives to government partners; Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to work at the highest levels of government in an effective manner.”
The GIO is a high-level state government position that reports directly to the state’s Chief Information Officer. Among other duties listed, the GIO will “facilitate the coordination of GIS activities amongst state agencies, counties, cities and tribal governments.”
