Students in the North Woods now have a new opportunity to study geospatial technologies. Nicolet College, located near Rhinelander, is getting set to kick off the first semester of their new 2-year GIS Technology program. Fall semester classes begin on Tuesday, September 4th.
“We have worked with employers and discovered that demand for employees in [the GIS] career track is increasing and expected to grow even more in the future,” said Brigitte Parsons, Dean of Trade and Industry at Nicolet.
The college also worked closely with employers when designing the curriculum to make sure that the skills taught in the labs and classrooms “will align to skills that are needed for an entry level workforce in [GIS], and serve as a foundation for future career advancement,” Parsons added.
Parsons said the program is well suited for both adult learners and students entering college directly from high school. “Nicolet College has many resources to support students at every stage in life. We have students in every age group and every background you can imagine. We have programs that help students build upon the skills they already possess, while expanding their breadth of knowledge in new technologies,” she said.
Nicolet College is a public community college serving Northern Wisconsin from its campus situated along Lake Julia south of Rhinelander, and from outreach centers located within the Nicolet District. The College offers one- and two-year career diplomas and degrees, liberal arts university transfer studies, and a comprehensive continuing education program.
