home of the SCO
It’s hard to believe, but since the State Cartographer’s Office (SCO) was established in 1974, well over 200 staff and students have worked for our small office in Science Hall on the UW-Madison campus.
Since the beginning, we’ve provided real-world “service learning” opportunities for UW students. That tradition remains strong today, and in many ways is accelerating as employers demand staff that can hit the ground running with the latest technologies.
For many years, Brenda Hemstead (our longest-serving employee) has maintained an informal list of “alumni” who have worked at the SCO. We recently took Brenda’s list and put it online to form the basis of an all-new “SCO Alumni” page.
Are you an SCO Alum? If so, we’d love to hear from you! Send us a note, and tell us what you are up to. And if you know the whereabouts of anyone else on the list, we’d appreciate receiving that information too.
We are exceptionally proud of the many successful students and staff who have worked at the SCO as we head into our 40th year!
