SCO staffers Josephine (Jo) Horton and Carly Mertes contributed to an article published March 3, 2015 in the journal Environmental Research Letters. “A New Urban Landscape in East-Southeast Asia, 2000-2010” describes the results of a mutli-organizational effort to map urbanization in East-Southeast Asia. Using interpreted satellite imagery, the project team was able to determine Asian cities are growing faster in population than size.
The study was led by Dr. Annemarie Schneider from the UW-Madison Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment with funding support from the World Bank.
Carly and Jo both joined the SCO in July 2014 to work on the statewide “Wiscland 2” land cover mapping project.
Congratulations Carly and Jo!
