According to a 5/28/2021 email from Drew Fioranelli, President of GITA (Geospatial Information and Technology Association), GITA is being dissolved.
The letter states:
“Due to ongoing financial difficulties exacerbated by the pandemic, the Executive Committee for GITA National recently enlisted help from an outside party to conduct a feasibility study for our association. The study was to ensure the 2021 strategic plan aligned with our values, mission, and community needs. During the discovery phase of this study, we were informed that a full feasibility study was not warranted as our financial position could not sustain or support critical path operational needs. As such, a recommendation to dissolve was made. This recommendation (motion) was presented to the Board of Directors and brought before a vote. The Board voted to dissolve GITA…. Unfortunately, our association simply does not have the financial resources necessary to provide high quality educational and networking opportunities.”
While understandable, it’s sad to see GITA disappear, as they have served a unique niche of the geospatial industry for many years.
