GIS Database Administrator

CTR (a joint venture of CH2M HILL, Teng & Assoc. (exp U.S. Services), and Rise Engineering (ARCADIS U.S.)) provides program management services to the Chicago Dept. of Water Management (CDWM). As part of the CTR program team, supporting the CDWM Capital Improvement Program, this position will report to the CTR Water Main Planning Team Manager. CTR provides planning, design, and construction services for the water main that is replaced by DWM as part of its capital improvement program (CIP) and the primary responsibility of this position is to assist with planning the water main replacement program.

The current need is for a GIS specialist to produce service area analyses and who is also willing to grow to a level of competency and responsibility to assist with or lead multi variable data reviews. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, take initiative to find solutions, and apply GIS analytical skills to solve problems efficiently. The successful person will have the ability to function in a constantly evolving team environment and effectively communicate with all stakeholders, both internal and external.

The position is deadline driven and requires a high degree of organization. The daily responsibilities of a GIS Data Analyst include the following tasks:

• Review and analyze existing water main facility data, along with several other data source layers, using ArcGIS 10.2 and, based on replacement criteria and constraints, identify water mains for replacement
• Create, maintain, and organize project data within GIS
• Perform analysis of other agency work within the City of Chicago and identify conflicts and coordination opportunities
• Prepare reports and maps to support analysis for presentation to CDWM
• Coordinate with the CTR Water Main Survey, Design, and Construction teams
• Review, prepare and geocode data

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s. degree in GIS, Geography, Planning, Engineering or another science-related field
• 2-4 years of experience with data analysis and mapping using ArcGIS 10.2 desktop tools
• Must be detail-oriented, able to organize work, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of productivity

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in/for municipal agencies or with utility infrastructure work
• Proficient in the use of ArcGIS 10.2 desktop for data analysis and creating presentation-quality maps
• Strong capabilities in data management, data sourcing, and query understanding (or ability to learn quickly)
• Proficiency with Microsoft tools including MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access (or ability to learn quickly)
• Experience creating reports using Crystal Reports or Microsoft Access (or ability to learn quickly)
