Duties and Responsibilities

This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a 4 course per semester teaching load (the successful candidate may have a reduced teaching load of 3 course per semester by providing students and faculty researchers with fixed-schedule tutoring sessions. Evidence of successful mentoring in STEM contexts would be welcome). The candidate will be expected to teach GIS courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, contribute to teaching the GIS Certificate and mentoring students in GIS projects within the GIS Laboratory. In addition, the candidate will teach a sophomore-level Environmental Statistics course and develop new courses in GIS and spatial statistics as the technology advances. If desired, the candidate will have the opportunity to develop and engage in research projects during the summer months and apply for grant funding. This position may assume other duties as needed such as working as the assistant GIS Lab director in the future.

Qualifications

Applicants must have earned an advanced degree [Ph.D. required] in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Statistics, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field prior to the start of the position. Candidates with experience teaching (remote sensing) digital image analysis are preferred. ABD will be considered. One to three years of prior full-time college teaching experience is preferred. Candidates of color and those with experience teaching undergraduate courses as the instructor of record will be given strongest consideration.
