The City of Waukesha, Department of Public Works, Engineering Division, is seeking innovative Civil engineering students to assist with design, development and construction of a wide range of municipal projects from conception through to completion. Co-ops and Interns work side-by-side with project managers, engineers and technicians on real world projects. You will fine tune your problem-solving abilities and develop technical skills through fun and challenging project assignments.
Our job tasks are diverse, depending on our current projects. On any given day our co-op and intern students could be working on the following types of activities:
- roadway design
- utility design (stormwater, sanitary)
- site layout (playgrounds, parks and trails)
- topographic survey
- survey staking
- construction inspection
While working on these fun projects you will receive extensive training and mentorship throughout.
Available Terms:
Intern Terms – Summer 2023
Co-op Terms – Summer 2023, Fall 2023 or Spring 2024, Summer 2024

Skills/Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to expand and improve problem solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Reliable and dependable
- Excellent driving record with a valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D preferred, but not required
- Negative result on pre-employment testing
