The Supervisor Geographic Information Systems (GIS) will be responsible for implementing, supporting, and enforcing GIS and CAD processes and standards. The Supervisor is the on-site subject matter expert, working in tandem with GIS Technicians, optimizing the design and maintenance of Madison Gas and Electric Company’s (MGE) gas and electric distribution asset data. The Supervisor GIS will also work with CAD Technicians to support and enhance MGE’s CAD-based needs. In both GIS and CAD environments, maintain data quality to reduce errors and costs and improve internal and external processes that will increase customer satisfaction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses, enhances, and enforces gas and electric distribution GIS and CAD processes and standards.
  • Ensures the accuracy of the gas and electric geometric network creation and maintenance for supporting DMS, OMS, and Synergi gas and electric models.
  • Ensures all information and GIS data are complete and up-to-date for the gas and electric distribution systems relating to line conversions, maintenance programs, switching operations, phase changes, and other new construction or system improvement projects.
  • Performs GIS data maintenance, manipulation, analysis, extraction, and generation assignments and performs data research, investigation, and verification on an as-needed basis.
  • Coordinates and conducts user applications training, develops and maintains training materials and manuals, responds to and resolves user inquiries, and develops and maintains user documentation with the support of lead GIS and CAD Technicians.
  • Performs ongoing evaluations of GIS/CAD staff, processes, methods, and recommendations. Seeks critical feedback from user teams to upgrade and improve methods and processes to increase productivity and reduce errors.
  • Maintains communication with GIS Administrators to understand ongoing changes to the software and database environments.
  • Coordinates and communicates with MGE gas and electric design engineers and field supervisors on GIS-related tasks and shared efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in or specialized GIS education or certification or equivalent experience.
  • Five+ years of experience in GIS methodologies with Esri software.
  • Five years of experience in using the ArcGIS Desktop, ArcSDE, and Esri geoprocessing tools.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of GIS concepts, aerial photography interpretation, and spatial data.
  • Able to effectively communicate and convey GIS/spatial information to a non-GIS/technical audience.
  • Able and willing to develop and lead employees to be effective GIS contributors.
  • Excellent oral communications skills and effective writing, negotiation, and consensus-building skills.
