Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes maintenance of existing files, development of remonumentation program, review of plats certified survey maps advising registered land surveyors and the general public. Serves as the official County Surveyor and Land Information Officer for Douglas County and is responsible for carrying out the statutory requirements of the Surveyor’s office. Assists in the administration of the County subdivision ordinance. Provides oversight of GIS Technicians. Serves as member of Land Records Committee and reports to Zoning Committee. Performs other duties as assigned by the Planning and Zoning Administrator.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate or four-year related degree preferred. Must be Registered Land Surveyor, licensed in the State of Wisconsin, preferably with a minimum of five years experience in land surveying after registration. Trained in computer mapping and database management with two years automated mapping. Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License to operate County vehicle.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Surveying techniques, plane and geodetic; subdivision and control ordinance; legal descriptions of land; global positioning systems; procedures for the restoration of lost and obliterated government survey corners; Mathematics associated with civil engineering and surveying. Must possess knowledge of zoning ordinances and water regulatory codes; geographic information systems. Must possess a working knowledge of the following software and mapping operations: MS Access, Arc/InfoNT, ArcView, Autocad, Windows DOS and Cogo. Ability to perform astronomical observations and calculations; use surveying instruments and make accurate surveys; maintain effective working relationships with County officials, employees and the general public; establish and maintain survey records; supervise and layout work of personnel assigned.
