Technical Experience:

  • Proficiency with the ESRI suite of GIS software products including: ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcIMS, and ArcSDE (4 years)
  • GIS software development utilizing the ArcObjects 8.3 (min 2 years) and ArcObjects 9.0 (preferable) libraries in a Microsoft-based development environment
  • Sound educational and/or practical foundation in GIS principles and concepts
  • Experience with the ArcIMS ASP connector (min 1 year). Additional experience with the ArcIMS Java connector and/or general AXL development is desired, but not mandatory
  • Software development using Visual Basic 6.0 (5 years), VB.NET (6 months), ASP.NET (6 months), HTML (2 years), JavaScript (3 years), XML (2 years), XSL (2 years), and SQL with Oracle (2 years)
  • Additional experience (preferred): Familiar with ArcView (and Avenue), ArcINFO (and AML), ArcGIS Server, and a background in earth sciences

    Project Experience

  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Familiarity with industry standard application development processes and techniques
  • Ability to self-manage and coordinate priorities amongst a variety of projects
  • Strong communications skills (verbal and written)

    Education/Training

  • Undergraduate degree ((Masters degree preferable) with training in GIS and/or an additional degree/certificate in GIS
  • Programming certificate (or equivalent) for Microsoft-based application development (Visual Basic, .NET, JavaScript, XML)

    Ideal Candidate
    The candidate would have an undergraduate or advanced degree in earth sciences and 5 years experience as a Software Developer for both desktop and web-based applications, with an emphasis on the development of GIS-based applications. The developer would have experience through the entire life-cycle of application development (from planning to deployment to support and maintenance). The candidate would be able to work independently as well as jointly with fellow developers and project managers.

    We expect the prospective employee to work from the office located in Madison Wisconsin.
