The Lincoln County Land Information and Conservation Department is seeking two limited term employees for the spring/summer of 2006. The limited term employee will assist in creating geographic information systems (GIS) layers for Lincoln County as well as updating existing data layers. The limited term employee will work under the direction of the GIS Project Coordinator and County Conservationist. Compensation is $9.00 an hour. Position will not exceed 599 hours of work and has no benefits.

This position will be responsible for assisting the staff with a variety of GIS projects. Typical tasks may include:

* Collecting data and preparing computerized maps, charts, graphs, and diagrams;
* Entering/digitizing map-related information into computer(s);
* Developing and preparing computer documentation for custom menus and macros to implement new applications;
* Generating information from compiled information for GIS application;
* Aerial photography interpretation;
* Field surveys;
* Operating and adjusting GIS related general office equipment;
* Preparing background information: and
* Using ArcGIS 9.0 software.

Possible Intern Responsibilities:

Update following GIS layers:
Culvert Inventory County and Town, Public Access Points, Work on Hydro Layer; Help with address clean-up, Trail data ATV, Snowmobile, Hiking, parcels.

Create following GIS information:
Create sign Inventory, Create and update Metadata

Candidates should be enrolled in a bachelor, associate degree program or higher in geography, land records, geology, natural resources or related field. GIS experience is preferred.

Candidates must have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and dependable transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed at the rates established by Lincoln County.

Candidates must be able to use and interpret a variety of maps. Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines and must possess good oral and written communication skills.

Candidates must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions with occasional exposure to pollen, dust, odors, etc.
