GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This is basic technical support work performed in a professional engineering and mapping environment. The work involves providing technical expertise assisting the City Engineering Division Land Records Program. The work is performed under the direct supervision of higher-level technical or professional staff and is reviewed in progress and upon completion.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in the City of Madison Engineering Division Land Records Program including land, legal, and survey records, databases and related record keeping systems. Assist with and prepare legal descriptions, scale maps and files relating to survey and land record processing involving computerized systems associated with such projects as relocation orders; land acquisitions; public right-of-way vacations; annexations; easement conveyances; easement releases; Corporate (City) limit description updates; surplus land sales; official map changes. Assist with and prepare Common Council resolutions associated with land records projects. Assist with providing mapping products for City staff, other governmental agencies, city contractors and the general public by using mapping graphics, GIS database/mapping software, and orthographic photos. Perform related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of computer mapping and/or drafting systems (MicroStation preferred), equipment and software.
Knowledge of accounting principles and drafting, engineering, and/or land surveying principles, techniques, and procedures. Have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other City staff, vendors, other private agencies, and the general public. Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain adequate attendance.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Two years of technical support experience in land surveying and/or GIS/Mapping. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledges, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to meet the transportation and mobility requirements of the position.
