The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission has an immediate opening for a senior level engineer or planner with an interest in travel demand modeling. The Commission conducts area-wide system level highway, transit, and airport planning for a seven county Region, and facility and corridor-level traffic engineering and transportation planning for local governments. Current work efforts include area-wide long range planning, corridor studies, traffic engineering studies, short range planning highway and transit studies, and travel model development and application. The primary responsibility of this position would be to assist in the travel demand forecasting efforts performed by the Commission in support of current and future transportation planning and engineering studies.

A master’s degree plus three years of transportation engineering experience or a bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience with an emphasis in transportation engineering or planning are required for this position. Additional requirements for this position include:

  • Experience in developing and maintaining travel demand models.
  • A working knowledge of Federal requirements for travel demand models with regard to air quality conformity and Federal Transit Administration “New Starts”.
  • An understanding of statistics and the use of statistical programs.
  • Experience with travel demand forecasting packages such as TRANPLAN, TP+, or Cube.
  • Experience developing computer programs with a programming language such as FORTRAN, or Visual Basic.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, and/or other spreadsheet software.
  • Proficiency in MS Access, and/or other database manipulation software.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS 9.x, and/or other GIS software.

Salary range is $37,000 to $59,000. The Commission is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
