Job Description:  The Geographic Information System (GIS) Coordinator provides accurate, reliable, and critical GIS information to City Departments that is necessary for the success of department programs and projects by maintaining, coordinating and administering the City’s GIS, including the analysis of complex data and the design, implementation and maintenance of GIS applications.  Will establish benchmarks and verify data in field with a Global Positioning System and assist in the development and implementation of GIS Intra- and Internet mapping applications.

This individual acts as a resource to other departments in planning, developing, maintaining, and effectively utilizing GIS and relational databases.  The position will serve as lead staff, providing direction to other department staff and/or consultants as required.  The position performs related and other work as required all within the context of the City’s Mission, Vision, Values statement and with a strong and progressive customer service orientation.  This position reports to the Director of Planning and Economic Development.

Qualifications:  Bachelors Degree in Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, GIS, Surveying or a related field; supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience and/or training in GIS including  ArcInfo 9.x, ArcGIS 9.x, ArcView 9.x, ArcSDE 9.x, and ArcIMS 9.x, as well as experience in relational database integration with GIS applications and COGO.  SQL Server 2000, AutoCAD, and MicroStation experience a plus. Associates Degree in Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Surveying or related field will be considered providing candidate possesses a minimum of four (4) years relevant and progressive GIS experience. Additional experiences with large format scanning and mapping also a plus.
