This position is with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Eastern Region, Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC), located in La Crosse, WI. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for the following major duties: –Design research and develop management tools that answer questions of pressing concern to natural resource management agencies. –Model future habitat conditions, as well as areas of ecological significance, based upon species habitat management strategies, and historical vegetation information using a variety of GIS software and remote sensing data. –Provide both conceptual and technical recommendations to other scientists at the UMESC in the use and application of GIS in ecological research and make recommendations for visualizing and displaying complex data such as the concerning future habitat conditions.
This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.
