The Associate Research Specialist is a primary member of the research team working as an assistant to the principal investigators, John Frey, M.D. and Alexandra Adams, M.D., in charge of the RWJ Communities at Risk research projects.
The Associate Research Specialist will work on ongoing community-based health-related research projects determined by a collaborative group of interdisciplinary UW-Madison researchers and other community-based participants. This network of participants is also known as the Community-Based Health Research Group (CBHRG). The CBHRG network was established during the initial phase of this research project. The group is focusing research efforts on the South Park Street community area in southern Madison.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Work closely with the participating CBHR group to develop and coordinate research projects.
2. Identify appropriate instruments for data collection and develop additional data collection instruments with investigators.
3. Perform collection of research project data, including administering surveys, collecting observational data, interview data, photos, mapping and GIS survey data, collate and enter mapping and GIS data into database, maintain database, generate reports. Develop mechanisms for standardized tracking and outcome measure data collection.
3. Communicate on a regular basis with CBHR group and community participants in collaboration with Drs. Adams and Frey. Identify and carry out research related action items resulting from CBHR group meetings. Assist with protocol development for research studies.
4. Write and submit articles and reports for publication in collaboration with Drs. Adams, Frey and CBHR group members.
5. Prepare data and materials to be used in community discussions and research presentations. Prepare posters of processes and results of the CBHR group research projects, including GIS and mapping data.
6. Assist investigators and community and academic partners in writing grants and manuscripts.
7. Maintain information about research projects, timelines, organizational involvement and accessible participants. Maintain up to date project website information. Coordinate all aspects of research studies initiated by the CBHR group.
8. Meet with community members and organizations to increase the number of partners in the network, including attending public health, primary care, and nursing conferences.
