Position: GIS Specialist

Mapping Specialists, Ltd., founded in 1984, is a full-service cartography firm providing a broad range of graphic services. Some of our products and services include: thematic/reference maps, street maps, cartograms, shaded relief, base projections, data conversions, and database development.From its beginning, MSL has striven to be at the forefront of cartographic service and technology. We have provided quality maps for encyclopedias, college textbooks, secondary and elementary social studies programs, travel guides, and federal, state and local government publications.We now include GIS as one of our cornerstones. We provide the same quality and on-demand GIS service as we have done for over twenty years in cartography.Position Requirements:
Position is for full-time employment. A B.S. or B.A. in GIS, Cartography, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or other related fields is required. The candidate will have two years experience in GIS and education in GIS or Remote Sensing. Knowledge of GIS data conversions, data editing, digitizing, rectification, projections, and basic cartographic skills are needed of this position. Some programming knowledge is a plus.

Employee should be knowledgeable of ESRI Products. GRASS, AutoCAD, and MicroStation experience also considered. The employee should be comfortable working extensively with computers.

Position Responsibilities:
Responsible for working on multiple short-term and long-term GIS based projects. Employee will work on several tasks at one time. Projects may include research, geocoding, rectification, digitizing, editing, data conversions, hillshading, map production, and other assigned tasks. Employee should be a problem solver and be able to work independently on some projects. Employee may be required to train other staff and may have occasional contact with clients. Employee will also be responsible documentation of work.
