Fish and Wildlife Technician / GIS Specialist

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Extensive field work including:
    1. raising walleye from spawn collection to stocking;
    2. wild rice surveys, harvest, and planting;
    3. fish, wildlife, and waterfowl population surveys;
    4. habitat restoration and enhancement;
    5. tree planting;
    6. chain saw use;
    7. aquatic pesticide application;
    8. equipment maintenance.
  2. Interact with the public, provide tribal fish management information.
  3. GIS Specialist:
    1. collect field data on GPS unit;
    2. create and maintain GIS databases;
    3. create and maintain spatial data;
    4. create maps;
  4. Other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in biology, natural resources, or related field.
  2. Current driver’s license with no violations.
  3. Ability to maintain accurate and thorough data records.
  4. Willingness to travel for extended periods.
  5. Willingness to work nights, early mornings, and weekends.
  6. Good physical condition.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Experience with word-processing, spreadsheet, and Internet software.
  9. Training in GIS data collection and software.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Experience in walleye culture.
  2. Ability to work with a variety of natural resources.
  3. Experience in GPS/GIS.
  4. Ability to identify aquatic plants.
