Description:
The primary responsibility for this position is to assist in the maintenance of the Village’s GIS data sets including cadastral, addressing, land use, street and utility information. The position may also work on various data conversions, construction, and enhancement projects which could entail entering data using ESRI software, Microsoft Office products (Excel and Access) and Oracle SQL. The position might also be called on to work on other GIS datasets as requested.
The position is a permanent, part time position working 25 hours per week.
The individual applying for this position should have a functional understanding of geographic concepts, geographic information systems and other database systems. A degree in Geography, Cartography or GIS or a similar field is preferred. The individual may also be currently enrolled in college seeking a degree in one of these fields. Work experience and prior on the job training may also be used to meet this subject matter requirement.
The candidate may be asked to perform other duties as required or assigned.
This position is located at the Roger Prange Municipal Center located at 8600 Green Bay Road, Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, and the office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours will be flexible within this time frame.
Requirements:
• Must have experience using some form of GIS system. Candidates with experience using ESRI products, especially ArcGIS 9.0 or higher will be given priority
• Must be able to read and interpret maps, construction plans, and other types of plans.
• Must have a general knowledge of computer, the Windows operating system and Windows office products.
• Must be able to work to a schedule and meet stated milestones.
• Must be able to work with computer files in a NT /Windows based environment.
• Must be able to work with Oracle databases in a NT/Windows based environment.
• Must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers, elected officials, the public and others.
• Must be able to work in a fast paced, stressful environment.
• Must have and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
• Must be able to work for long periods of time in front of a computer terminal looking at a CRT and typing on a keyboard.
• Must be able to understand and carry out orders and assignments and must be able to demonstrate understandable English speaking skills.
• Must be able to meet attendance requirements of the job.
• Must be willing to respond to supervisory guidance, assignments, correction, and discipline.
• Must be able to follow Village policies and procedures.
• Must have the ability to make quality decisions based on training and common sense.
