Description:
The Lincoln County Land Information and Conservation Department is seeking a limited term employee for the summer of 2008. The limited term employee will assist in creating geographic information systems (GIS) layers for a variety of projects in Lincoln County as well as updating data layers. The limited term employee will work under the direction of the GIS Specialists and Land Information and Conservation Department Head.
Duties and Responsibilites:
This position will be responsible for assisting the staff with a variety of GIS projects. Typical tasks may include:
• Collecting data and preparing computerized maps, charts, graphs, and diagrams. Such data includes but is not limited to emergency response information, public access points, culvert locations, forestry roads/boundaries and critical infrastructure.
• Entering/digitizing map-related information into computer using ArcGIS 9.2
• Creating and updating GIS layers such as requested by GIS Specialists.
• Aerial photography interpretation and field surveys
Training, Knowledge and Skills Required:
Employee should be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in geography, land records, geology, natural resources or related field.
Employee must have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and dependable transportation. Mileage, for all work related projects, will be reimbursed at the rates established by Lincoln County.
Employee must be able to use and interpret a variety of maps. Must be able to work independently, meet deadlines and possess good oral and written communication skills.
Employee must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions with occasional exposure to pollen, dust, and other elements.
