PURPOSE OF JOB:
The day to day responsibilities as a Content Acquisition Specialist–Imagery involve working with aerial and satellite imagery vendors to support the efforts of navigational map projects worldwide. You will do this by working with the field organization, researching, contacting and acquiring data from content providers as per project plans and budget guidelines. This position is 50% business/functional and 50% technical and is global in scope.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Knowledge of geographic data sources, most importantly of satellite and aerial imagery.
• Work closely with our primary imagery provider to communicate Digital Mapping Operations quarterly project needs and understand the supplier’s current and future availability.
• Participate on project calls/meetings as needed to understand timeframe for imagery, requirements and use cases.
• Identify and qualify prospective imagery content sources if major supplier is not able to provide required data.
• Communicate availability to global DMO personnel and also work with the same personnel to assess their needs and support them to create shapefiles for their areas of imagery interest.
• Understand and utilize image processing and GIS principles and production processes
• Using specialized computers, software, and databases to produce easily understandable maps, graphs and technical data
• Developing end user training and business oriented metadata documentation
• Develop content roadmap by geography
• Create standard reports that demonstrate our monthly usage and trends (statistics provided by imagery supplier); develop other communication as needed.
