Position Summary

This position will support the legislative apportionment and redistricting activities. The position will use GIS tools to process and analyze large data sets to produce graphics, maps, and charts.

Primary Responsibilities

  • As requested by Senators, and in collaboration with the Legislative Coordinating Commission GIS office, design and produce proposed state and federal district maps and statistical reports using GIS software; analyze and provide statistical population reports and tables based on redistricting plans and related Census data.
  • Coordinate efforts for the preparation and review of maps and reports with the Redistricting Specialist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An Associates or Bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems, surveying and mapping, geography, computer science, data science, management information systems, mathematics or engineering or related.

AND

  • One-year work experience in the use of GIS software.
  • Equivalent combination of the above will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with census data.
  • Knowledge of data analysis techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to conduct in-depth and carefully documented analysis under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative work environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess effective working relationships with Legislators, Legislative staff, and the public.
  • Exercise good judgment in handling situations.
  • Ability to work long hours under stressful situations to meet tight and changing deadlines.
