GIS Specialist II
Description
GIS Specialist II is a mid-level data production position that performs several advanced data production functions within a project by analyzing utility maps, sketches, field photographs, and tabular data. In this position, team members will also perform QA, train others, and create project documentation.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Create and/or maintain advanced data production functions (for gas, electric, or telecommunication commodities) using GIS-related software.
- Advanced working knowledge of all project tools/specifications to complete work.
- Perform data quality control and assurance of peers and/or contractors.
- Train and provide technical guidance to others as needed by sharing information and transferring knowledge to others through informal/formal training.
- Consistently exceeds the productivity standards per project requirements.
- Consistently exceeds the quality standards per project requirements.
- Occasional involvement in project start-ups and client interaction as needed.
- Produce project specific documentation as needed.
- Travel, on a limited basis, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- 2-3 years of related GIS experience.
- Willingness and ability to gain an advanced understanding of commodities.
- Advanced skills in editing, manipulating, and analyzing data within GIS.
- Consistently detail oriented, organized, and quality focused.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate issues and potential solutions effectively.
- Takes the initiative to learn new things.
- Proficient working knowledge with GIS software.
- Exposure to or initial training in ArcPro, Utility Network (UN), and SSP Sync.
- Proficient working knowledge with Microsoft Office.
Education, Certifications, and/or Experience
- Degree in Geography, Computer Science, a related field, and/or equivalent work experience. Relevant certifications are preferred, but not required.
- Direct utility or GIS work experience is required.
