Description:
The Geographic Information Services department of Rochester Public Utilities is seeking a temporary/seasonal/limited appointment position to assist with the various department activities during the 2021 summer season. Selected individual must demonstrate good communication, proficient computer skills and ability to maintain positive working relationships.
Duties:
- Perform field inspections, assist with surveying and staking projects.
- Assist staff with water and electric system GIS system maintenance.
- Assist our Geographic Information System (GIS) staff with analysis, database inputs and graphic updates to the Public Utility’s GIS.
- Provide assistance to RPU staff, as needed.
- Assist with other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Completion of at least one year of college or technical school in a field related to geographic information systems (GIS), geography, civil engineering, planning, computer science or other related coursework utilizing mapping and database management software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of: basic geographic information system principles.
- Skill in: professional communication and developing effective working relationships.
- Ability to: operate a motor vehicle in all weather conditions; work independently with minimal supervision; perform work in an outdoor construction environment with variable weather conditions; and prepare thoughts and ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
