The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Technology Services is recruiting to fill a GIS Support Analyst (IS Data Services – Professional) vacancy. This position will be stationed out of our Central office in Madison, however there may be an opportunity to telework for up to 60% of the workweek!

Position Summary

The GIS Support Analyst supports account administration, technical support, and enterprise data management using ESRI platform technologies for approximately 1,000 agency GIS users.  This position will support the maintenance and usage of several enterprise GIS datasets used by DNR staff and provide first-level technical support for use of GIS data, as well as various desktop and web-based GIS platforms used by staff across the department. Additionally, they will also manage user accounts, group configurations and sharing requests for ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Hub and ArcGIS Portal, and fulfill ArcGIS Desktop license requests.

Salary Information

Starting pay is $25 – $30 per hour ($52,000 – $62,400 annually).

Pay on appointment for current or former state employees is based on the State Compensation Plan. Current State employees applying as a transfer applicant will require DPM approval for pay on transfer increases.

This position is in Pay Schedule/Range 07-35. A 12-month probation period will be required.

Job Details

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check.  DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

All state employees are required to report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and must provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment. At this time, those who are unvaccinated are subject to weekly COVID-19 testing protocols.

Qualifications

Please make sure to describe the following qualifications within your resume and/or letter of qualifications in order to be considered for this position:

Required qualifications include experience in all of the following:

  • Performing GIS data development, editing and cartography using Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) ArcGIS Desktop software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro)
  • Troubleshooting and resolving desktop GIS and Web GIS technical issues
  • GIS data quality assurance and quality control
  • Using ArcGIS Online to create web maps and configure applications
  • Experience documenting technical procedures and/or developing user training for GIS tools

Best-qualified applicants will also have the following preferred qualifications:

  • Experience publishing map services to ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Portal or ArcGIS Online
  • Experience curating shared GIS data and service repositories for use by large or multiple business areas.
  • Experience managing ArcGIS Online user accounts and group permissions for more than 10 users.
  • Experience performing GIS data editing using ArcSDE or ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Experience providing GIS technical support and consulting for desktop GIS, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Portal or other GIS tools
  • Experience with SQL and Python coding
  • Proficient with Microsoft Access and Excel
