Are you a skilled project leader with expertise in GIS related systems and platforms? The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Business Management, Bureau of Information Technology is recruiting to fill an IS Systems Development Services Specialist (GIS Project Lead/Administrator) position! This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment supporting and leading complex GIS projects for our core GIS Unit.  The GIS Unit supports the enterprise GIS deployments and staff throughout the Department.  We take an innovative and engaging approach working side-by-side with our clients using emerging technologies.

Position Summary

This position provides advanced technical leadership and direction in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) as both a Project Leader and a GIS Administrator for the GIS Unit that serves the Department of Transportation.  This leadership position will support DOTs diverse GIS staff and promotes the use of distributed GIS concepts, methodologies, and policies.

As a GIS Project Leader, you will be responsible for providing advanced project leadership for disparate distributed GIS facilities that involve multiple software platforms, development environments, and architectures in areas such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Desktop, and spatial data.

As a GIS Administrator, you will make recommendations regarding GIS system direction, support, and be responsible for the hands-on maintenance and on-going support of the many DOT enterprise GIS platforms.  You will provide direction and support to other application development project leaders in the use of systems using distributed GIS methodologies and toolsets as well as coordinate and consult with many other technical support units, applications development units, other state agencies, and vendors.

Qualified applicants must have all of the following:

  • Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Related education (e.g. coursework, training etc.) and/or work experience
  • Experience providing GIS Administration or managing GIS related platforms (related to GIS data and metadata)
  • Experience managing projects or Project Management Methodologies (PMM)
