ABOUT US
The McHenry County Conservation District’s mission exists to preserve, restore, and manage natural areas and open spaces for their intrinsic value and for the benefits to present and future generations.
The District manages over 25,600 acres of open land diverse with woodlands, prairies, wetlands, ponds, creeks, and rivers. It provides sites open to the public year-round featuring trails, picnic shelters, camp sites, fishing sites, and educational programs.
JOB OVERVIEW
Gain experience out in the field utilizing GIS technology and learn how to apply it to natural resource management. Work with our experience staff of Ecologists and GIS Analyst in the collection and maintenance of land management, land acquisition, division programs and biological inventories using mobile devices and/or GPS. Assist in the day-to-day operations, administration, implementation, maintenance, and support of the Land Preservation and Natural Resource Division’s GIS and related systems.
What are we looking for? An applicant familiar with the area of natural resources. A graduate, or in the process of obtaining a four-degree, with an emphasis in Computer Science, Geography, Geographical Information Systems, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Biology, or other related program. At least six (6) month’s experience working with GIS systems. Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
For your safety and those around you, we require applicants to have a current, valid driver’s license and complete a pre-employment drug screening due to driving being essential to the job.
WORK PERIOD: 500 Hours starting when available with flexible scheduling. 40 hour work week typically Monday through Friday, but may be required to work periodically on the weekends.
