As the MnGeo Survey Coordinator you will provide leadership and coordination of the PLSS (Public Land Survey System) Preservation grants provided for in Minnesota Statute 381.125. This includes creation of an application process, review, and evaluation of, and documentation of PLSS preservation grants. Additionally, this position will outreach to the Minnesota Surveying community about the grants and provide leadership to MnGeo about survey-related geospatial data, such as boundary datasets.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:
  • At least four years of land survey experience with a license to practice land surveying in Minnesota.

Experience must also include:

  • Knowledge of the Public Land Survey System and land surveying including understand of the principles and laws in the specialized field of land surveying; governing statutes and ordinances; functions and resources of local, private, and public agencies concerning land surveys.
  • Knowledge and experience in surveying and preparing PLSS corner certificates and/or plat maps.
  • Knowledge of the survey-related Minnesota laws, regulations, and standard surveying practices
  • Registration as a Land Surveyor with the Minnesota Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to learn, understand and adhere to grant process that adhere to Department of Administration grant guidelines and processes, to work with financial processes defined by MNIT Finance department, and to produce legislative reports, in coordination with MNIT Communication and the MNIT Legislative Liaison.
  • This position requires significant relationship management skills including ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state agency contacts, private surveyors, attorneys, citizens, and county officials.
  • Strong understanding of geographic data sources, georeferencing and GIS data.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Public presentation skills to diverse audiences including professional, technical, leadership, and legislative roles.
  • Ability to write clear, concise technical and legislative reports and promotional materials and documentation.
