GIS Specialist

MMSD is seeking qualified candidates for the position of GIS Specialist in the Technical Services Division.  Reporting to the GIS Solutions Supervisor, you assist with data development, maintenance, and implementation of MMSD’s GIS software system.  You use GIS software to display geospatial and tabular data through maps, visualizations, charting, or other geospatial solutions and analyze data to identify spatial relationships.  You are responsible for Diggers Hotline ticket assessments and assist in maintenance of related software platform and standardized procedures.  You also support customers in the retrieval of District records and provide technical assistance for GIS software and applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Process Diggers Hotline ticket requests in accordance with established procedures.
• Design and create a variety of visual deliverables and data outputs displaying spatial data and/or spatial analysis results for internal and external customers.
• Perform GIS data maintenance of MMSD’s GIS software system that complies with quality control standards.
• Assist in the maintenance and production of online applications, data, and maps.
• Provide customer support for web-based GIS applications.
• Serve as the GIS technical resource to MMSD employees through software/application modifications and updates.
• Participate in outreach events outside of MMSD.
• Assist customers in the retrieval of digital or hard copy MMSD records.
• Perform GIS analysis to support decision-making and solutions.
• Complete special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, data science, or a closely related field.
• Seven months to one year of job-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience working with GIS mapping and software systems.
• Knowledge of GIS online applications and software systems.
• Familiarity with various utilities, engineering drawings, and survey data.
• Knowledge of Esri products, extensions, and familiarity with relational databases.
• Ability to meet the expectations of internal and external customers.
• Computer software proficiency.
• Ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and related software, email, internet, calculator, telephone, photocopier, FAX, plotters, and scanners.
