OVERVIEW
The Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey (WGNHS) conducts earth-science surveys, field studies, and research. We provide objective scientific information about the geology, mineral resources, water resources, soil, and biology of Wisconsin. We collect, interpret, disseminate, and archive natural resource information. We communicate the results of our activities through publications, technical talks, and responses to inquiries from the public. These activities support informed decision-making by government, industry, business, and individual citizens.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will work with a WGNHS Hydrogeologist and GIS staff to improve access to water table maps and other groundwater datasets. Typical tasks will include review, editing, and finalization of GIS data and metadata using ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and other GIS tools. These datasets will ultimately be made available through our Publications Catalog (https://wgnhs.wisc.edu/catalog/) as well as GeoData@Wisconsin (https://geodata.wisc.edu/), improving usability and access to this important natural resource information.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current student
- Experience with geospatial data, digitizing, georeferencing, and metadata editing in ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) or ArcGIS Pro;
- Good written and verbal communication skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Knowledge and skills to effectively interact with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity;
- Employment will require a criminal background check.
KNOWLEDGE
- Experience with ArcMap and ArcCatalog or ArcGIS Pro;
- Experience in geology, hydrogeology, or environmental science is preferred;
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro cartographic tools is preferred.
