This position is responsible for assisting in the management and coordination of the Village’s GIS.  Provides maps, atlases, and reports for Village staff, performs maintenance and quality control to the Village’s base data and utility datasets, assists with GPS operation and data collection, create and provide support for mapping applications to assist Village staff and local residents.

Pay Rate:  $34.21/hour ($71,158 annual) / negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

Work Schedule: Full-time, on-site position: 40 hours per week – general business hours between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with some flexibility in work hours; full benefits:  paid time off – accrued vacation and sick time; paid holidays; personal time off; IMRF pension participation; employer paid insurance plans; additional retirement savings options; clothing allowance.  Position covered under Local 150 Midwest Operating Engineers Union Contract.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Proficiency with the ESRI suite of applications (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS online, Survey 123, ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Pro, Experience Builder, and ArcGIS Dashboards)
  • Strong knowledge of data structures and relational database design and good working knowledge of SQL administration is preferred; Experience with scripting languages such as Python and T-SQL
  • Other key qualities include effective oral and written communications skills; excellent customer service skills; organizational skills; problem solving skills; team player in a technical team setting as well as ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to develop positive internal and external working relationships

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in GIS, Geography, Computer Science or closely related curriculum. At least 1 year of experience working with GIS and maintaining GIS information.  Other combinations of education / experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the job functions may be considered.    A valid Driver’s License and safe driving history is required.

Position tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists in the design, development, maintenance and implementation of the organization’s GIS applications in an Enterprise GIS environment
  • Responds to requests for maps and spatial data from Village departments, outside agencies, and the general public; queries and analyzes spatial data
  • Creates and maintains GIS data in an enterprise geodatabase
  • Produces maps, exhibits, atlases and reports, or interactive map applications for various departmentsAssists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal and public-facing web mapping applications
  • Performs automation of GIS tasks using geoprocessing models, Model Builder, or Python
  • Assists with GIS hardware and software setup and configuration
  • Provides technical assistance, consultation, and basic training to department users with GIS-related projects and applications
  • Update existing GIS data from historical plans, As-builts, engineering Plats of Survey, legal descriptions, and aerial imagery
  • Gather and incorporate GIS data from external sources
  • Provide GIS assistance for asset management implementation
  • Preparing records and performing data conversion between various databases, GIS, and CAD formats.
  • Provide in-field data collection for various projects and tasks using GPS equipment, UAV’s, or other data capture tools.
