This position assists the County Surveyor for Bayfield County. Assists the County Surveyor carrying out the statutory requirements of the Surveyor’s office as per SS. 59.45. This position is based in the Land Records Office and will assist the county in carrying out surveying responsibilities. Funding is available for approximately 380 work hours through December, 2024. Schedule is flexible.

Examples of Duties

  1. Maintenance of existing survey archives.
  2. Assist with the execution of the section corner remonumentation program.
  3. Help review of plats, certified survey maps, maps of survey, advising registered land surveyors and the public.
  4. Assist in the administration of the county subdivision ordinance.
  5. Assist County Surveyor in boundary determinations and dispute resolution.
  6. Assist with surveys of property on County owned lands.
  7. Assist with land sales and acquisitions.
  8. Keeps up to date on all adjustments and geoid models to the Bayfield County Coordinate System.
  9. Performs duties assigned by the Land Record Administrator/Land Information Officer.
  10. Helps establish, maintain, and verify GPS coordinates in PLSS.
  11. Help County Surveyor perform survey work as necessary for Forestry Department, Highway Department and other county departments. Assist marking boundary lines of county owned land for various projects.
  12. Assist County departments in drafting real estate documents.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Interest and/or acceptance to school in land surveying, engineering, GIS, preferred.
  3. Possession of a valid Driver’s License to operate a county vehicle is required.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Work in all outdoor weather and environment conditions
  2. Awareness to work on and within Federal, State, County, Town, City, Village roads and Right-of-Way for long periods.
  3. Lift and carry 50lbs for more than a mile at a time in the wilderness.
  4. Be able to dig, place pipes, and excavate frozen soil with hand tools.
  5. Rigorous physical exertion for extended periods of time including, but not limited to, walking, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing; and reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.
  6. Vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus on small screens.
  7. Manual dexterity is required to operate the technical instruments and equipment appropriate to surveying inall weather conditions.
  8. Work is performed both in an office setting and outdoors, which may require extensive traversing of rough terrain.
