Description

As an academic staff member of University of Wisconsin-Extension, employed with the Center for Community Economic Development, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) State Specialist is responsible for implementing GIS applications in support of community economic development educational programs for local organizations and communities. Primary duties include advancing the use of GIS technology and strengthening the data analysis capacity of county educators and state specialists; developing new community economic development applications in GIS such as community economic analysis, economic development element of comprehensive planning, and community business development techniques; providing GIS support to market analysis programs; and preparing educational materials and reports using appropriate technology. Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate degree (or degree in progress) in a field that relates to the responsibilities of this position such as geography, GIS, business, economics or planning
  • Proficiency with GIS concepts and knowledge of community economic development
  • Demonstrated success in designing, promoting, implementing and evaluating educational programs
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills in a team setting and on an individual basis
  • Commitment to working with diverse audiences
  • Ability to assume periodic travel throughout the state
  • Ability to schedule regular evening and occasional weekend work

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Experience with ESRI ArcView, the Business Analyst extension, Avenue programming, as well as other database software and programming languages
  • knowledge of public and private data sources applicable to downtown market analysis
  • knowledge of the downtown market analysis process
  • Ability to serve a large and diverse number of faculty, academic staff and community economic development representatives in an efficient manner
