Cartographic Technician

This position is located on the National Resources Inventory (NRI) Technical Services staff in Madison, WI and is supervised by the NRI coordinator. The primary focus of this position is collection of land use and land use change data using remote sensing techniques. The digitizing of land use information on digital imagery. Performs quality control checks to make sure accurate and consistent data have been recorded. The digitizing of soil surveys to meet the National Cartographic standards for the Soil Survey Geographic Database. Develops resource layers using both scanning and manual digitizing. Maintains daily records of time distribution and work accomplishments. Plots and updates maps to include boundaries, dams, bridges, tunnels, easements, utilities, landuse, and contours and elevations of rough terrain. Works with technical and professional staff at the NRI and Digitizing Center and professional staff at several other state and regional offices to solve data problems. Supports and participates in Civil Rights program activities.
