The Forestry GIS Analyst will work with the Forestry Division’s GIS Specialist located within the Bureau of Forest Services. Responsibilities will include analyzing remote sensing and aerial photography alternatives to meet the business needs of the Forestry Division, working with division staff to scope, develop, implement and monitor potential GIS projects, leading the implementation of field office Virtual Private Network (VPN) installations, and developing standards and procedures for a state forest road inventory project. The position will also lead the development of an Information Technology project intake process and consult with division Web staff to design a system that incorporates Web project intake into a comprehensive project planning system. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required: Education and experience in GIS/Remote Sensing work in forest or natural resources management is required. Remote sensing skills including digital imaging, ground control and aerial photography use in natural resources is required. Development and management of natural resource information systems including, field data collection (e.g. field computers and GPS), data modeling GIS, and the creation of natural resource applications is required. Experience developing and managing multiple complex projects is preferred. Good organizational, written and oral communication skills are required. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in teams with a diverse group of customers and independently.
