Hiring Organization: Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forestry is seeking a qaulified individual to provide statewide expertise in the training and support of forestry information technology applications including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), PlanTrac, and aerial photography to forestry staff in field offices. Starting salary is between $19.70 and $21.23 per hour, plus excellent benefits. This position is represented by the Fiscal and Staff Services Professional bargaining unit. A six month probationary period is required.

Job Duties: This position leads information technology support for field staff in the Division of Forestry and coordinates training with other forestry IT professionals, the forestry and Department training offices, and the Bureau of Technology Services. This position supports the work of professional and technical forestry staff for mapping, spatial data capture, use and analysis by utilizing its specialized knowledge of complex emerging technologies, including GIS and GPS integrated with other specialized forest information technologies.

Knowledge Required: This position requires knowledge of the functionality and appropriate applications for natural resources purposes of GIS software, including ArcGIS and ArcView, GPS, and graphic design/output software. Knowledge of the concepts and execution of GIS data analysis, and how to effectively apply these methodologies to natural resources applications. This position also requires knowledge of remote sensing technologies including aerial photography, digital imagery, and ground control use in natural resources. The ability to communicate effectively is critical to success in this position as this position will be providing IT training to forestry staff, mentoring and coaching users in these technologies, and presenting information to both technical as well as layperson audiences.
