Mapping Specialists, Ltd., founded in 1984, is a full-service cartography firm providing a broad range of graphic services. Some of our products include: Thematic/Reference maps, Street maps, Cartograms, Shaded relief, Base projections, Data Conversions, and Database Development.
From its beginning, MSL has always striven to be at the forefront of cartographic service and technology. We have provided quality maps for encyclopedias, college textbooks, secondary and elementary social studies programs, travel guides, and federal, state and local government publications.
Today we have included GIS as a major focus of our company. Our aim is provide the same quality and on-demand ability that we have done for over twenty years in cartography in our GIS department. We can take on virtually any project and complete it at the highest standards.
Position Requirements:
B.S. or B.A. in GIS, Cartography, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or other related fields. The candidate will have a minimum of 2 years experience and education in GIS or Remote Sensing. Analysts must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of GIS data conversions, data editing, digitizing, rectification, projections, geodatabase development, and excellent cartographic skills are needed of this position.
Employee should be knowledgeable of a combination of ArcView, ArcGIS, ArcInfo, GRASS, AutoCAD, or MicroStation. The employee should be comfortable working extensively with computers.
Additional Qualities– Knowledge of ArcIMS, ArcSDE, AML, ArcObjects, VB, VB.Net, Java, Visio, Oracle, SQL
Position Responsibilities:
Responsible for working on multiple short-term and long-term GIS projects. Employee will assist in project development and staff supervision. Projects may include research, geocoding, rectification, data capture, editing, data conversions, map production, database development, web-map design, and other assigned tasks. Employee must be able to work independently, will be required to train staff, and will have extensive contact with clients. Analysts must maintain the highest levels of professional conduct and work quality. Employee will also be responsible for organization of data and extensive documentation of work.
Other Requirements– Analysts must be highly motivated and willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Analysts may be required to assist with estimating, billing, and report writing. Some travel may be required for client training, marketing, and conferences. Must maintain high knowledge in the GIS field.
